The Seoul Arts Center, one of South Korea’s major cultural institutions, is a complex comprising the Opera House and two museums – the Hangaram Art Museum and the Hangaram Design Museum. From December 12, 2014 to March 29, 2015 the Design Museum has hosted an exhibition created by Les Arts Décoratifs and curated by Anne Forray-Carlier, chief curator of the 17th- and 18th-century department. As its title suggests, this exceptional presentation gave the Korean public a privileged inside view of an eighteenth-century aristocratic residence with all its refinements. Exhibition designer Philippe Renaud has created a replica of a mansion and its gardens, providing the setting for a selection of masterpieces from the collection of Les Arts Décoratifs, some of which specially brought from the Paris museum’s galleries.
